23.12.2025

Issue No. 6 of the popular science magazine "Svitoglyad" (November–December) for 2025published by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine together with the Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine.

At the beginning of the issue, the editor-in-chief of the publication, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Yaroslav Yatskiv, congratulates the readers of the magazine on Christmas and the New Year.

"The 28-point plan has exceeded all bounds of cynicism" – a statement by members of the Initiative Group "First of December" Olha Aivazovska, Oleksandra Hnatiuk, Volodymyr Yermolenko, Yevhen Zakharov, Yosyp Zisels, Myroslav Marynovych, Oleksandra Matviychuk, Yaroslav Yatskiv regarding the so-called "peace plan" with 28 points proposed by US President Donald Trump at the behest of representatives of Russia.

"Radosław Sikorski in the UN Security Council refuted Russian narratives point by point." We present quotes from the speech of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski.

Currently, a certain structure has emerged in the world (including Ukraine) – the organization "Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora," which directs efforts to find and implement opportunities to assist those scientists who have gone abroad and those who remained in Ukraine and continue to work under more adverse conditions. "Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" – about the tasks and opportunities of Ukrainian scientists on both sides of the former "Iron Curtain." Presented to readers are fragments of a dialogue between Professor of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Vienna Andriy Chumak and Doctor of Historical Sciences Ihor Lyman with a corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine NAS of Ukraine Serhiy Ryabchenko (Institute of Physics of the NAS of Ukraine).

To date, the "Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora" has collected 25 interviews with well-known and competent scientists on these issues from various countries. In the pages of "Svitoglyad" – "Interview of Andriy Chumak with Ihor Lyman."

Art historian Olena Shapiro (Kyiv) presents a black series of graphics about the war in Ukraine by artists Kateryna and Tetiana Ochereidko: "War is pure evil." Such works are documentary evidence that war is total evil that has no right to exist.

"Science makes Ukraine stronger and more successful" – about the results of the activities of the section of physical-technical and mathematical sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2020–2025 tells the first vice-president of the NAS of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Vyacheslav Bohdanov. These years were marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and then the full-scale Russian invasion, which became an unprecedented challenge for our country. But even under such extremely difficult conditions, scientists did not stop but, on the contrary, focused on the most important – strengthening defense capabilities and the future reconstruction of Ukraine.

The problem of AI has been "in sight" for several decades. Scientists of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Problems of the Ministry of Education and Science and NAS of Ukraine in 2019–2023 carried out a fundamental scientific project "Creation of the Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Ukraine." This monograph emphasizes that human intelligence and artificial intelligence, in general, cannot be objects of scientific research because they are immaterial results of the activity of other material objects, namely the human brain and, accordingly, the "brain" of the machine, which form human consciousness and artificial machine consciousness. An even more original approach to the problem of AI is proposed by academician of the NAS of Ukraine Viktor Hrinchenko in the article "Human and Artificial Intelligence: from Opposition to Co-creation." We hope that the readers of "Svitoglyad" will join his unique generalizations.
