On December 11, 2025, the international scientific conference "Problems of General, Comparative-Historical and Contrastive Linguistics (on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Orest Borysovych Tkachenko)" was held at the O. O. Potebnia Institute of Linguistics of the NAS of Ukraine.
More than 50 scholars working at leading universities and research institutions in Ukraine, as well as abroad – in the USA, Poland, and Germany – volunteered to participate in the event.
The reports presented at the conference highlighted the significance of the works of Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Orest Tkachenko for the development of Ukrainian linguistics. Researchers paid special attention to the role of this outstanding scientist in studying the history and present of Finno-Ugric languages in the territory of the Russian Federation. Tkachenko's works not only enriched various fields of linguistics but can also be useful in building strategies for the national revival of peoples under the pressure of Russification.
Conference participants also discussed a wide range of problems in general, comparative-historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, language contact theory, onomastics, phraseology, linguistic mentality, media linguistics, Slavic studies, linguistic Ukrainian studies, and more.
A collection of materials will be published based on the results of the conference.
