Was born October 17, 1905 in the village Horishka of Poltava region. In 1930 graduated from Kyiv Institute of Public Education, in 1933 – from postgraduate study of the Institute of Chemistry, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1935 was awarded the degree of Candidate of Chemical Sciences. In 1936-39 worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences. On May 23, 1939, the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences, guided by the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of May 8, 1939, decides to establish the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR based on Institute of Chemical Technology of the AS USSR and Organic chemistry Sector of Institute of Chemistry AS USSR. I.M. Podorvan becomes a Senior Researcher at the newly established Institute. At the beginning of the war, he and a group of employees of the Institute commissioned anti-tank weapons at the request of the headquarters of the Southwest Front, received the rank of captain of chemical troops. When the front approached, he was sent to the headquarters of the 37th Army, which defended Kiev. He was seriously injured in the Berezan area and was unable to escape. After a while, he settled in the Kremenchug Soap Factory and established close ties with underground workers, became a member of the underground council. In the factory laboratory, he made mines, pomegranates, and bottles of incendiary fluid. Soon the underground exploded the enemy echelon. “Chemist” (underground nickname GIodorvan) also carried out agitation work among the habitants. For conspiracy purposes, he had to change his place of residence seven times. On the night of September 20, 1943, the Kremenchug guerrilla detachment left the city to concentrate on the advancing units of the Red Army and concentrated in the Dnieper plains. Podorvan was appointed commissar of the troop. On September 27, 1943, the guerrillas joined the Red Army front. LM Podorvan returned to scientific work. In 1944-75 worked as an associate professor at the Kyiv University, Department of Physical Chemistry. In 1944-53 was Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry. Was an associate professor. Performed the investigation in the field of electrolyte solution theory, technology of explosives. Read special courses in theoretical electrochemistry. Died on May 28, 1994 in Kiev.
Was awarded the Order of Patriotic War I degree, 20 medals. Author of more than 40 scientific papers.
