Title: | Structures of novel antitumor telomerase inhibitors and polymer nanoconjugates for cellular delivery, methods of structure design, chemical synthesis and biological testing of low-molecular bioactive agents and nanomaterials |
Type of product: | Improving the effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment |
Description: | Antitumor agents of new generation – inhibitors of telomerase – efficient at micro- and submicromolar concentrations were developed. Their action is based on the specific binding to G-quadruplex structures of telomeric DNA and inhibition of the enzyme which is active in the majority of cancer cells. Nanoconjugates of low-molecular inhibitors with biocompatible polymeric carriers (dextran, polymalic acid, polyethylene glycol, etc.) were developed for the efficient delivery of drugs to the tumor cell. |
Technical advantages: | The drugs are directed at new biological target – the telomerase system; high specificity of action of telomerase inhibitors associated with high enzyme activity in tumor cells, in contrast to normal ones; attachment to biocompatible polymeric carriers allows the efficient delivery of therapeutic agents to tumor cells; conjugates are low toxic and more selective than low-molecular inhibitors; the simultaneous attachment of several drugs of various types to the same carrier is possible for the combined therapy. |
The economic benefits: | There is a very large market, both in the world and in Ukraine, for new efficient antitumor agents. The drugs will be able to improve the efficiency of therapy of cancer diseases. The developed structures and methods of chemical synthesis will find applications in organic and medicinal chemistry, biology and medicine. |
The impact on the environment. Environment: | The developed bioactive compounds and their nanoconjugates with biocompatible polymers are low toxic and don’t have a harmful impact on the environment |
