Historian, officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, research fellow of the genealogical and heraldic research sector of the Department of Special Branches of Historical Science and Electronic Information Resources at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Candidate of Historical Sciences Oleksandr Alfiorov in his interview for the media platform "Ukrainska Pravda" talked about the First World War, about the origins of corruption in Ukraine, about the Central Rada, about M. Hrushevsky and V. Vynnychenko, about the conflict between S. Skoropadsky and P. Petliura, about the charisma of Y. Konovalets and the role of the OUN, about the conflict between S. Bandera and A. Melnyk, the role of R. Shukhevych and his contribution to the UPA.
The scholar explained whether the Third World War is currently underway, when the peak of Ukrainian corruption was, whether we are fighting on the historical front, and who helped the Russians falsify history.
Regarding the war for history, Oleksandr Alfiorov noted: "There is a war for history, and this war was lost a long time ago. Now, so to speak, partisan detachments of historians have started to act, and their influence is quite powerful."
About the strengths and weaknesses of the Russians in conducting war, the historian noted: "Historically, they are masters of quick wars – three days, three is the ideal format, or a week, a month, half a year. The Russians really have some ability to conduct rapid campaigns. But where Russia gets bogged down in a war for more than two years – that's trouble. And this is a weak point of the Russian army – if they play the long game, they need help. The Russian army has always been based on autocratic generals, cannon fodder, and piles of equipment, albeit old, but equipment – a lot of it. But after the first push, all of this is destroyed. (...) A good example is the Crimean War, where they surrendered because they could not last even three years (1853-1856), signed the capitulation, and withdrew the Black Sea Fleet. They are not capable of fighting for a long time."
