The well-known historian, head of the department at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine Larisa Yakubova, in her article for the magazine «The Arc» writes about the similarity of the totalitarian cultures of Nazism and Stalinism, the specifics of working with mass consciousness, and the repressive, cultural, and propaganda tools of the latter.
The scholar spoke about Russian fascists abroad and pro-fascist ideological constructs that were activated as the ideological underground of Soviet society during the era of ideological stagnation. Larisa Yakubova notes that "the socio-economic catastrophe, the mass impoverishment of some, the instant enrichment of others, armed conflicts on the outskirts of the Russian Federation cultivated great-power resentment and xenophobia." Research and understanding of all these processes are important for comprehending what humanity is facing in the face of the current rashist Russia.
