Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine, Candidate of Biological Sciences Oksana Mankovska, in an article for the online publication “Dzerkalo Tyzhnia” explained how so many different cells are formed and work harmoniously in the human body, who controls them, about the science of epigenetics and the epigenetic conductors of the gene orchestra.
“So what does epigenetics study? At the level of individual cells, it investigates the influence that controls the work of our genes, works with what exists, but like a conductor forces some gene-instruments to be silent and others to be louder – and can create very different music with the same orchestra composition,” the scientist notes.
So, what is epigenetics, what are the main epigenetic mechanisms distinguished, how external conditions affect epigenetic processes, what epigenetic changes occur during a person’s life, whether we pass our epigenetic changes on to descendants – learn about this and much more from the article by the biologist of the Academy Oksana Mankovska “Who Controls Our Genes? Mysteries of Epigenetics”.
